Police foil robbery, prevent mob action in Ago-Iwoye

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun state command, Ago-Iwoye Division have foiled a robbery attempt in the area.

According to a statement made available to journalists, the Police noted that incident happen on June 16, 2026 where operatives of the force responded to a violent armed robbery incident involving a commercial motorcyclist along the Ita-Merin axis of Ago-Iwoye.

The Police narrated that the victim was attacked by two passengers he conveyed on his motorcycle.

“The suspects used a hammer to strike the victim on the head and body, inflicting injuries before dispossessing him of the motorcycle.”

“Following a distress alert, residents pursued and apprehended one suspect. Police operatives quickly arrived at the scene, restored order, and prevented mob action against the suspect, thereby averting further breakdown of law and order,” the statement disclosed.

The Police further noted that it has recovered the stolen motorcycle and the hammer used in the attack.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects operate in a coordinated manner, targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes using a hammer to overpower victims and dispossess them of their motorcycles.

Further investigation established that the arrested suspect is linked to similar incidents within the axis, indicating his role as a key actor within a broader criminal network.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the criminal network.
