The Ondo State Police Command has foiled a planned bomb attack in Akure, arresting six suspects and recovering materials believed to be components for the fabrication of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The operation, carried out on April 15, 2026, was described by the Command as a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes and safeguard lives and property in the state.

Police authorities said preliminary investigations indicate that some of the recovered items were intended for the construction of explosive devices, while others may have been used to support coordinated criminal activities.

The suspects were identified as Adekunle Prosper (56), Ojo Olumide (39), Tope Kolawole (40), Ahmed Salihu (40), Bolaji Adebowale (46), and Gbadebo Abidemi (43).

According to early findings, the group allegedly engaged in assembling IEDs for potential attacks on government infrastructure. Investigators also believe the suspects’ operations may extend beyond Akure to other parts of the country.

Further intelligence revealed that the suspects had recently rented an apartment in the Oke-Odu area of Akure, which they reportedly used as a base for their activities. Security operatives also recovered a document outlining potential target locations, indicating a well-coordinated and premeditated plan.

The police said the swift intervention of its operatives prevented what could have resulted in significant loss of lives and extensive damage to property.

Condemning the incident, the Command urged landlords and property managers to conduct proper background checks on prospective tenants to prevent criminal elements from using residential buildings as hideouts.
