The Nigerian Police Force has declared Shogbesan Oluwatosin Ayo wanted in connection with an alleged homosexual offence.
Ayo believed to be around 34 years old and approximately six fit four inches tall is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a Magistrate Court in Lagos State.
According to the Police reports, he was declared wanted after being caught engaging in same-sex activity with a partner on 23rd December, 2023, and he has since fled.
The Police stated that the act contravene the cultural and moral standard widely observed in Lagos and runs afoul of Nigerian law.
Same-sex relationship are prohibited under the same-sex marriage, (Prohibition) Act, which came into force in January 2014. The legislation prescribes a 14 years prison sentence for individuals found guilty of entering into or participate in a same sex union or relationship.
Police spokesperson affirmed that Ayo was last seen in Lagos and called on members of the public to assist in locating him.They appealed that anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the nearest police station or security agency.
