The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the recent vandalism and destruction of billboards and other government symbols across the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the destruction.

He described the incidents as criminal acts and direct attacks on public property, constituted authority, and the relative peace currently enjoyed in Osun State.

The CP warned all individuals or groups involved in these acts to desist immediately, stating that the Command will not tolerate any form of criminality capable of disrupting public peace.

“The Command urges all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct their activities within the ambit of the law and in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act. Political actors are advised to play by the rules by embracing peaceful engagement, political tolerance, and lawful conduct, while refraining from acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order in the state,”the statement read.

The statement further advised members of the public to remain law-abiding, refrain from taking the law into their own hands, and report suspicious movements or persons involved in vandalism and related crimes to the nearest police station.

The Command assured residents of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in preserving public infrastructure and maintaining peace across the state.
