The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges in a follow-up operation linked to a robbery incident reported in April 2026.
The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Robbery Team at their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.
According to the Command, the arrests followed sustained tactical intelligence and operational follow-up after its operatives recovered a stolen red Toyota Matrix vehicle in connection with an armed robbery incident in April.
Preliminary investigations, the police said, revealed that the suspects, alongside other members of their gang, allegedly masterminded the April robbery and were involved in several armed robbery operations and violent vehicle-snatching incidents across the Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan areas of the state.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation to their involvement in various armed robbery operations within the region and are currently assisting detectives with information to aid the investigation.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate for possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its tenacity and commitment to follow-up investigations.
Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and the arrest of key members of the alleged syndicate demonstrated the Command’s determination to pursue criminal investigations to a logical conclusion.
He assured residents of the state that the police would continue to intensify operations aimed at dismantling armed robbery networks and other criminal groups.
The CP also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements, and activities to the police through the Gateway Shield toll-free line or emergency lines
