Police arrest two Armed robbery suspects, recover stolen vehicles

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, 48-year-old Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, also known as “Mandela,” and 38-year-old Abiodun Ogunojukan, alias “Ilasa.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that a joint operation by operatives from the Ifo and Sango Divisions led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles, two live cartridges, and various foreign currencies.

Babaseyi noted that this breakthrough followed sustained, intelligence-led investigations into reported cases of armed robbery and vehicle snatching within the divisions’ areas of responsibility.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects belong to a wider criminal syndicate involved in robbery and vehicle theft across Ogun State and neighboring regions.

Acting on credible intelligence on May 9, 2026, detectives from the Ifo Division stormed a hideout in the Adeleye area of Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly being concealed.

Follow-up operations on May 10, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., led operatives to the Sango-Ota Under Bridge, where Abiodun Ogunojukan was apprehended.

Upon his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and provided information that is currently assisting efforts to capture fleeing syndicate members and recover more stolen property.

All recovered exhibits have been documented and secured, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift response.

He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining the crackdown on criminal elements.

He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely information through the Command’s emergency and toll-free lines.
