The Oyo State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes, arresting three suspected kidnappers and recovering firearms following intelligence-led operations.
The arrests followed credible information received by the Command, which led operatives to Aliu Umaru, 22, of Komu Village, who had been on the police wanted list for the alleged kidnapping of 25-year-old Huseinat Abubakar of Gelede Camp.
Under interrogation, Umaru reportedly confessed to the crime and led police to two other alleged syndicate members, Gure Wadi, 60, and Ibrahim Yobo, 35, both also from Komu Village. A search of one suspect’s residence resulted in the recovery of a single-barrel gun and a dane gun, believed to have been used in the kidnapping.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended the professionalism and courage of the officers involved and vowed that all fleeing members of the gang would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. He also praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for enhancing operational efficiency across the Command.
CP Haruna further acknowledged the crucial role of the public and non-state security partners, whose timely information contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
The Oyo State Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged citizens to continue providing credible information to aid security efforts.
