The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three suspected members of the Iceland cult group in connection with the gruesome killing of Mr Bako Angbashim, the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, who was captured and beheaded in September 2023.
Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed the arrests on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, in Port Harcourt. She explained that the breakthrough followed credible intelligence and an intensive manhunt.
“Operatives from the Octopus Tactical Unit successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified simply as K1, a prominent figure within the Iceland cult group,” Iringe-Koko stated.
Following K1’s arrest, police interrogations led to the capture of two additional suspects: LoveGod Goodluck, arrested in Ikata community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, and Precious Olumini, who had previously escaped from police custody.
During the operations, a locally fabricated single-barrel firearm and two cartridges were recovered from Goodluck. Olumini was found in possession of an English-made pump-action rifle and a locally made pistol.
Iringe-Koko confirmed that all three suspects admitted to being members of the Iceland cult group and confessed to their roles in a series of violent crimes in the Ahoada East area.
She noted that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded. The police are continuing efforts to locate and arrest other fleeing members of the gang and to recover more weapons.
“This marks a significant step forward in our drive to combat cultism and violent crime in Rivers State,” Iringe-Koko added.
