The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult kingpins and recovered a firearm during a targeted operation in Ondo Town, as part of intensified efforts to curb cultism and violent crimes across the state.
The arrests, carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) in Akure, followed credible intelligence provided by a local security group, leading to the apprehension of the suspects on April 11, 2026.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi are alleged members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, groups often linked to violent clashes in parts of the state.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in a cult related clash that occurred on April 9 within the premises of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, where rival groups reportedly engaged in a confrontation that threatened public peace.
Following their arrest, the suspects reportedly led police operatives to a hideout at the Oka Garage area of Ondo Town. A search of the location led to the recovery of a locally made English pistol, suspected to have been used in criminal activities.
The police said the suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group and recover additional weapons.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other forms of criminality, stressing that perpetrators of violence would be brought to justice.
He also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation and urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information.
The Commissioner further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued support and strategic leadership, which he said has strengthened policing efforts in the state.
Residents were assured of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and encouraged to report suspicious activities through official channels.
