The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man accused of engaging in multiple ATM card fraud operations across the state and neighbouring Cross River.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was apprehended on Saturday at a bank premises along Abak Road in Uyo after authorities received distress calls from two banks about suspicious card-swapping activities.
The suspect was captured on CCTV footage, which facilitated his swift identification and arrest. During the investigation, officers recovered seven ATM cards linked to different banks in his possession.
DSP John confirmed that the suspect confessed to operating alone and admitted to carrying out fraudulent withdrawals primarily in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. One of the victims has come forward to make an official statement and identified the suspect.
The police assured that he will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
