Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Olajunja Segun Samson, and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms during a routine patrol in the Igando area of the state.
The arrest, according to the Police Command, was made as part of its ongoing operations to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect was apprehended after a patrol team intercepted a motorcycle carrying three male occupants whose conduct aroused suspicion.
She explained that the suspects attempted to flee immediately they sighted the police patrol. While two of them escaped, Samson was arrested at the scene, with the motorcycle abandoned.
A search conducted on the suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms.
“The suspect is currently in police custody while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices. Investigation into the case is ongoing,” Adebisi said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes across the state and urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and the arrest of criminal elements.
The police also encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines to enhance swift response to security threats.
