The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major operational breakthrough in its intensified nationwide crackdown on violent crime, arresting 50 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery, while recovering a cache of high-grade weapons and criminal assets.

The Force disclosed this during a press briefing held on April 13, 2026, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja, where it outlined the outcomes of recent coordinated operations across multiple states.

According to the police, the operations form part of a sustained strategic offensive targeting criminal syndicates that have posed long-standing threats to national security.

From January 2026 to date, operatives of the FID-IRT have dismantled several criminal networks and recovered a significant haul of weapons and equipment, including 17 rifles of various models, an anti-aircraft launcher, 111 rounds of live ammunition, 17 cartridges, five walkie-talkie communication devices, nine magazines, three mobile phones, and a Golf vehicle used in criminal operations.

Among the key achievements highlighted was the dismantling of a 33-member gang implicated in terrorism, cattle rustling, and a violent attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State. The police also confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of three officers attached to the Donga Divisional Headquarters in Taraba State, describing it as a significant step toward justice for fallen personnel.

In the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, the Force said it has intensified efforts to curb urban criminality, leading to the arrest of suspects involved in “one-chance” abductions, car burglaries, and the operation of illegal police checkpoints. Authorities noted that these operations have not only removed dangerous elements from the streets but also led to the recovery of stolen items and tools used in perpetrating crimes.

In a related development, operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended one Nasiru Ibrahim, 25, in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect operates in the Igumale area of Benue State and is linked to a wanted bandit identified as Janari, who allegedly supplied the weapon.

The police said efforts are ongoing to track down Janari and other members of the network, with further recoveries expected as investigations deepen.

Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to national security, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, stated that the achievements underscore the dedication of officers in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

He added that several of the arrested suspects would soon be charged to court, while operations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices and recover additional illegal arms.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens, noting that it continues to leverage both human and technological intelligence to stay ahead of evolving criminal threats.
