The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has disclosed that the Command arrested and prosecuted a total of 3,490 suspected criminals in 2025.
Eribo made this known on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ado-Ekiti, while reviewing the achievements and operational activities of the Ekiti State Police Command for the year under review.
The police boss commended the media for its critical role in society, describing journalists as indispensable partners in security management.
He particularly praised members of the press in Ekiti State for their cordial and professional relationship with the Command, noting that such collaboration has contributed significantly to making Ekiti one of the most peaceful states in the country.
CP Eribo also acknowledged the support and cooperation of officers and men of the Command, as well as the backing received from the Ekiti State Government under Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
He described the Ekiti State Police Command under his leadership as proactive and “on top of the game” in managing security challenges, despite recording incidents of crimes such as rape, kidnapping, armed robbery and murder during the year.
Assuring residents of sustained safety, the Commissioner urged Ekiti people to remain confident in his leadership and the Command’s capacity to effectively manage security situations in 2026.
According to him, the Command will intensify patrols, stop-and-search operations and intelligence-led policing across the state to further reduce crime rates. He added that more technological equipment would be deployed in 2026 to tackle criminal activities head-on.
“We will continue bush-combing operations, especially along the Ekiti borders with Ondo, Kwara and Kogi states,” Eribo said, adding that the Command would strengthen collaboration with Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Agro Marshals and the Ekiti Peace Corps to enhance security across the state.
The Commissioner, however, warned officers and men of the Command against corruption, stressing that unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated in the new year.
In his response, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, lauded CP Eribo for his leadership and commitment to security, assuring him of continued cooperation and support from journalists in the state.
The event also featured the decoration of four newly promoted officers from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). The promoted officers are CSP Adeniran Akinwumi, CSP Ofangson Vincent, CSP Ogunleye Kehinde and CSP Falade Sesan Reuben.
CP Eribo urged the officers to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to the ethics and values of the Nigeria Police Force in the discharge of their duties.
