A 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command over his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo, while an intensive manhunt has been launched for his fleeing accomplice.
The arrest was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence located in the Odo Idi Scale area of Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.
The crime was officially brought to the attention of law enforcement on Tuesday, September 1, around 10:10 a.m., when the victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint at the Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Police Headquarters.
Following the report, operatives from the division moved to the crime scene to secure crucial evidentiary material. The victim was subsequently escorted to the General Hospital, alongside a formal Police Medical Form, to receive immediate medical care and undergo a forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations led detectives to Kamula, who was apprehended and taken into custody for questioning. Security personnel have also intensified intelligence-led operations across the area to track down the second suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who fled the scene and remains at large.
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the assault, reiterating that the command maintains a zero-tolerance posture toward sexual and gender-based violence.
The commissioner assured the victim’s family and members of the public that the investigation will be thoroughly pursued to ensure that the fleeing suspect is arrested and both perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
