The Police Command in Ogun has arrested two armed robbery suspects; Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, for allegely involving in carjacking and unlawful possession of firearms.
The command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi explained that operatives of the Anti-Robbery Team in Ogun, in April, followed up the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix.
He added that the operation, which also led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges, significantly disrupted the activities of a notorious syndicate operating across the state.
Babaseyi attributed the breakthrough to relentless operational follow-ups and sustained tactical intelligence by the anti-robbery team after recovering the red Toyota Matrix vehicle in April.
Babaseyi said that, following leads from the initial incident, operatives tracked the two suspects to their hideouts in Babaode, along Idiroko Road, Ogun, and Command area in Lagos State.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested suspects, alongside other members of their gang, masterminded the April robbery incident and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan areas of Ogun State.
“Upon their arrest, a thorough search led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.
“During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in various armed robbery crimes within the region and are currently cooperating with detectives by providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.
“Efforts are being intensified to track down, identify, and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal syndicate for possible prosecution,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the anti-robbery team for their tenacity, operational efficiency, and commitment to follow-up investigations.
He noted that the recovery of the firearms and the arrest of key syndicate members underscored the command’s determination not to leave any criminal investigation incomplete.
The CP reassures residents of Ogun that the command remained firm in its resolve to dismantle armed robbery networks and ensure that the state is unsafe for criminal elements.
