The Ondo State Police Command has arrested ten suspects over an assassination attempt on the traditional ruler of Igoba Community, Oba Adinlewa John, in Akure North Local Government Area.

The Monarch reportedly narrowly escaped death when a group of hoodlums, armed with guns, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons, invaded the community on October 2, 2025, attacking residents and attempting to storm the palace.

During the attack, a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo, sustained injuries after being robbed of her belongings by the assailants.

Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed that following a distress call, Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal immediately deployed tactical teams to the area, leading to the swift arrest of ten suspects linked to the violent invasion.

“The suspects have confessed to their various roles in the unrest and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations,” the statement read.

Recovered items include two locally fabricated pistols, one single-barrel gun, several rounds of live ammunition, charms, knives, machetes, and other weapons used in the attack.

The Police said normalcy has since been restored in Igoba while investigations continue to determine the motive behind the assault.
