Police arraign man, 50, over alleged N12m fraud

A 50-year-old man, Alade Oyetunde, on Wednesday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, for alleged N12m fraud.

Oyetunde, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and fraud.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 30 at 11.00a.m. at Owode-Egba, Abeokuta.

Olu-Balogun alleged that the defendant  collected the N12 million from the complainant, Mrs Aminat Sodiya, to supply a truckload of Maltina pet drinks, but failed to do so.

He said ​‌‌⁠⁠⁠‍⁠⁠‍​​⁠‍‍​‍⁠‌​that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

“All efforts made by the complainant to get the drinks or a refund proved abortive,” the prosecutor said.

Olu-Balogun said that the offences contravened Sections 383, 390, 418 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.K Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2million with one surety in like sum.

Araba ordered that thr surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 6 for mention.
