The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed a Federal High Court ruling that affirmed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the judgment as being in line with both the law and common sense.
He noted that the ruling has cleared up all questions surrounding Jonathan’s eligibility to seek the presidency again.
The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Jonathan remains qualified to contest the presidential election, despite having previously taken the oath of office as president twice.
The court’s decision has sparked intense discussions among political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP faction stated that the judgment strengthens democracy and upholds the constitutional rights of Nigerians to seek public office.
It also called on political actors to respect the court’s decision and focus on issues that affect the development of the country.
The landmark ruling is expected to play a significant role in shaping political alignments and conversations as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
