The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a nationwide youth mobilisation structure aimed at expanding its grassroots base, targeting 10 million votes and building a 288,630-strong executive network across the country.
The initiative was unveiled on Thursday at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, during the inauguration of the PDP National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum for the Survival of Democracy in Nigeria and the PDP Female Youth Wing.
Speaking at the event, Amb. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, the PDP National Youth Leader, said the new structure was designed to strengthen the party’s youth base and reposition it for future elections.
“Reinvigorate the youth constituency of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), galvanise massive grassroots mobilisation, strengthen our connection with the Nigerian people, and rebuild the party’s capacity to reclaim its rightful position in the nation’s political landscape,” he said.
Bala-Aboki explained that the structure will operate across national, state, local government and ward levels, with 15 administrative officers at each level.
According to him, the PDP Female Youth Wing alone will produce 144,315 administrative members, while the combined male and female youth structure will form a nationwide network of 288,630 executives.
He said the inclusion of welfare and religious affairs directorates was intentional to promote unity and social development among youths.
“We have created welfare and religious affairs structures at all levels to ensure moral development, unity, and social wellbeing of our youths,” he said.
The youth leader further disclosed that each executive member will be required to mobilise at least 20 supporters in their communities, adding that this strategy could help the party achieve its 10 million vote target nationwide.
As part of the restructuring, Bala-Aboki announced the dissolution of all existing PDP support groups, student organisations and affiliated NGOs, saying a two-week revalidation and fresh registration exercise had commenced.
He said the exercise would ensure transparency and credibility in the mobilisation process.
“We shall carefully refine the process to ensure credibility, transparency, and effectiveness, separating genuine stakeholders from opportunists,”he stated.
The newly inaugurated PDP Female Youth Wing will operate through a directorate system headed by a Director-General, supported by Deputy Directors-General and directors overseeing key departments.
It will also include dedicated Welfare and Religious Affairs Directorates to coordinate Christian and Muslim youth mobilisation across the country.
Bala-Aboki said the initiative is part of broader efforts to rebuild the PDP and strengthen democratic participation in Nigeria.
He urged party leaders, youth stakeholders and members to support the initiative, saying unity was key to the party’s success.
“Together, we can build a stronger party and contribute meaningfully to the survival and growth of democracy in Nigeria,” he said.
The event was attended by PDP stakeholders, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary, alongside other party officials and youth leaders from across the country.
