The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has reaffirmed that all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government chairmen in the state will soon resume duties at their respective councils, assuring that political differences are being addressed and unity will be restored.
Adewusi gave the assurance on Wednesday in Ilesa while unveiling a free-interest cooperative loan scheme for beneficiaries. Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke at the event, he dispelled rumours of the governor’s defection from the PDP, labelling the speculation as baseless propaganda aimed at misleading the public.
“The governor is going nowhere,” Adewusi said.
“He remains a committed leader of our party and has no intention of abandoning the PDP, especially not at such a critical time. The opposition is attempting to manipulate public opinion as we approach the 2026 governorship election. I urge you all to remain steadfast with the PDP.”
Describing the loan programme as symbolic, the Deputy Governor noted that Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi had previously introduced similar initiatives to empower residents of the state. He revealed that over ₦1.5 billion has so far been disbursed to cooperative societies under the current administration.
He encouraged loan beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, stressing that the facility is a revolving loan intended to support business growth and financial stability at the grassroots.
Adewusi also praised Senator Fadahunsi for his consistent commitment to community development and called on other influential Nigerians to replicate such gestures to uplift citizens from poverty.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Akin Famuyide, who represented Senator Fadahunsi, described the launch of ward-based cooperative societies across Osun East Senatorial District as a significant milestone, saying it was designed to empower people at the community level.
He said, “This is a revolving loan that will be repaid monthly. It is unprecedented in this district and aims to reduce poverty and build financial independence among our people. I encourage beneficiaries to use the funds wisely.”
Also addressing the gathering, the Osun State Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Prince Bayo Ogungbangbe, revealed that over 70,000 residents have benefitted from the ongoing loan scheme, describing it as a major contributor to the state’s economic growth.
“This fund is interest-free and must be returned monthly. It is meant strictly for business purposes,” he said.
“Senator Fadahunsi’s continued commitment to economic development is commendable. He has been instrumental in transforming the lives of many in Osun East.”
The Commissioner added that the cooperative sector in Osun State is thriving like never before, with plans underway to provide additional training to cooperative members to ensure long-term success.
He concluded by thanking Governor Adeleke for his administration’s dedication to empowering the people and delivering tangible dividends of democracy through grassroots-focused initiatives.
