Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
Davido made the appeal in a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, expressing concern over growing political tension and the potential for violence, intimidation, and the disruption of the democratic process as the poll approaches.
The singer urged relevant authorities to take necessary measures to protect voters, ensuring citizens can participate in the election without fear.
He emphasized that the people of Osun State deserve the opportunity to freely exercise their constitutional rights and choose their leaders through a peaceful electoral process.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.
Davido also appealed to the United States and other members of the international community to closely monitor developments surrounding the election and to encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and respect the outcome of the ballot.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” he wrote.
Rejecting any actions capable of instilling fear among voters, Davido reiterated that the electorate should be allowed to participate peacefully.
He clarified that his concern was not about gaining a political advantage, but rather about safeguarding the democratic rights of the people and preventing bloodshed.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he added.
