A wave of fear has gripped the residents of the Kuntun Bokun area within the Paze axis of Kubwa, located in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja, following a violent kidnapping incident.
Reports emerged on Wednesday confirming that heavily armed men invaded the community on May 15, firing weapons indiscriminately to terrorize local residents before launching their assault.
Community members recounted that the chaos began around 11:40 PM when sudden gunfire echoed across the neighborhood.
Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants, who were heard communicating in the Hausa language, threatened to shoot anyone found outside their homes.
One resident admitted that many households initially mistook the gunfire for routine patrols by local vigilante groups.
“I thought it was just the vigilantes shooting as usual, and I even sent a text message to some neighbors saying this random shooting had to stop. Shortly after, I heard someone screaming that they had been shot,” the resident explained.
During the raid, the gunmen abducted a male resident and fled the scene on foot. Another young man, who sustained severe gunshot wounds during the attack, remains hospitalized and is receiving medical attention. Residents noted that the attackers did not utilize motorcycles or vehicles during the operation.
The violent incursion has heightened anxiety in the area, particularly since a similar abduction occurred along the same Paze axis in March.
In response to the latest security breach, residents confirmed seeing increased patrols by security personnel around Byazhin and neighboring border communities.
Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, for an official statement were unsuccessful as of press time.
