The Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspected cult members and recovered dangerous weapons, electronic devices, and substances suspected to be hard drugs in a fresh crackdown on cult-related activities across the state.
The suspects, identified as Ajala Bukola (28) and Caleb Adesoye (24) were apprehended by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit during a routine stop and search operation along the Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway on June 3, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been on the command’s watchlist over their alleged involvement in cult activities within Ogbomoso and surrounding communities.
The police spokesperson disclosed that both suspects confessed to being members of a secret cult group during interrogation, adding that investigations further indicated that they occupied strategic positions within the group’s hierarchy and could be linked to other criminal activities currently under investigation.
A search conducted on a grey Lexus ES 350 allegedly used by the suspects led to the recovery of three axes, one cutlass, one hammer, an Apple laptop computer, an HP laptop computer, two iPhones, one Samsung mobile phone, as well as substances suspected to be hard drugs.
”The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with credible information aimed at identifying and apprehending other members and associates of the criminal group,” the statement said.
The command added that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the cult network and bring all individuals connected with its activities to justice reaffirming its commitment to tackling cultism and violent crime, the police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and actionable information to security agencies.
The command assured law-abiding citizens that it would continue to deploy proactive crime-fighting strategies to ensure public safety and maintain peace across the state.
