The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized contraband worth ₦2.5 billion, officials said on Thursday.

Deputy Comptroller and Acting Customs Area Controller, Wale Adeoye, announced the seizures at a press briefing in Ibadan, where 39 parcels of cannabis and other hard drugs were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Adeoye expressed concern over rising smuggling activities, warning that the Command would sustain enforcement operations.

“We will remain resolute in discharging our responsibilities with professionalism, transparency and integrity in the interest of Nigerians,” he said.

He said the seized items included foreign parboiled rice, used clothing, shoes, tyres, compressors, cannabis, vegetable oil, tramadol, premium motor spirit, foreign textiles, sugar and used vehicles.

Adeoye added that the Command generated ₦14.7 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 46.22 percent increase compared with the same period last year.

Deputy Commander of Narcotics at the NDLEA in Oyo State, Ene Valentine, commended the cooperation among security agencies, saying the interception of illicit drugs would help curb abuse and its social impact.

“Withdrawal of these drugs will help reduce the effects of abuse and related challenges in society,” Valentine said, urging parents and stakeholders to support efforts to tackle drug abuse.

The briefing ended with a display of the seized goods and the formal handover of the drugs to the NDLEA.
