The Osun State Government has dismissed allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged N11billion looting, describing the claims as a desperate attempt to cover up an illegal account freeze carried out on the orders of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
In a response to the anti-graft agency, the state government clarified that the sudden freezing of its accounts was a politically motivated move designed specifically to block the payment of promised economic palliatives to Osun workers marking the climax of the opposition’s anti-worker agenda.
The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Osun State, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi in a statement notes that despite the action, the administration confirmed that all scheduled palliative payments, negotiated to cushion the effect of the harsh economic climate, have been successfully disbursed to the workers.
The government also denied any missing ecological or state funds, describing the EFCC’s claims as a concocted alibi to justify an illegal action that has now backfired in the court of public opinion.
The state noted that the EFCC has been conducting a continuous witch-hunt since March 2026, harassing government officials on a weekly basis without producing a single piece of indicting evidence.
“Rather than following established legal procedures for financial oversight, the commission has chosen to act as a political arm of the Osun APC to distract the current administration from executing its mega projects and sectoral developments.”
“Osun State, which has earned multiple awards for budget and auditing transparency, urged the commission to stop operating as a political tool, respect the rule of law, and cease the harassment of state officials.”
“We don’t loot public funds in Osun State; we deliver on public goods and services. There is no fund to loot as our resources are transparently deployed toward mega projects, worker welfare, and public infrastructure. The EFCC is simply executing a hatchet job for the Osun APC,” the statement read.
