The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, have been confirmed as participants at the 2025 Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) Summit, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Now in its second year, the summit serves as a major forum for dialogue on critical issues shaping the nation’s transport sector. The inaugural edition in 2024 drew wide commendation from industry players and regulators.

This year’s theme, “Driving the Transport Logistics Value Chains for Economic Growth,” will be explored through keynote and panel sessions. Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa, will deliver the keynote address. Panel discussions will examine topics such as intermodal cargo evacuation from the ports, its benefits and challenges; enforcement hurdles within the Waterways Transportation Code; a review of Nigeria’s 100 years of aviation, assessing both gains and missed opportunities; and maritime insecurity, including its effects and trade route implications.

Stakeholders confirmed for the summit include the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA), Dangote Industries Limited, and Trucks Transit Park (TTP), among others.

Speaking ahead of the event, TCAN Chairman, Mr Tola Adenubi, praised the strong interest and commitment demonstrated by participants, stressing that the summit is expected to stimulate action on the country’s transport logistics challenges.

“We are thrilled by the attention this summit has generated and confident it will galvanise concrete steps to address the bottlenecks in Nigeria’s transport logistics value chain. For Nigeria’s transportation system to evolve, stakeholders must unite and work collectively to harness opportunities across the sector. Whether as an operator, regulator, or investigator, every player has a vital role in improving the nation’s logistics framework and raising living standards,” he said.

Adenubi also encouraged stakeholders, particularly organisations and companies within the transport industry, to use the platform to showcase their contributions to logistics chain development.

TCAN comprises journalists from leading national newspapers, television, and online media covering the transport sector. It operates as a subgroup of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
