The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality healthcare at the grassroots through sustained investments in the primary health care system.
Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWPHCDA), Prof. Nusirat Elelu, disclosed this while receiving the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), stakeholders from Oke-Ero Local Government, and the Head of Department, Health, during a courtesy visit to her office in Ilorin.
Prof. Elelu said the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration has revitalised over 70 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state, with several others undergoing phased upgrades. She explained that the facilities were comprehensively renovated and equipped with essential medical tools, solar-powered boreholes, and alternative power supplies to guarantee 24-hour functionality.
According to her, the state government has also prioritised the regular supply of essential drugs, recruitment of health workers, and continuous training of nurses, midwives, and other professionals to enhance capacity in line with global best practices.
She noted that digital innovations have been deployed to strengthen health information systems for improved planning, monitoring, and accountability.
“Nurses and midwives are the backbone of our health system. This administration will continue to invest in infrastructure, welfare, training, and innovations that will empower you to deliver optimal services to our people,” Elelu assured.
She added that partnerships with global development agencies such as UNICEF and WHO have helped expand immunisation coverage, improve maternal and child health indices, and strengthen the fight against preventable diseases including polio, malaria, and measles.
Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mr. Ajide Olayioye, lauded the state government for its investment in the PHC sector, while Oke-Ero Local Government’s Director of Personnel Management, Mr. Amuda Musbau, pledged continued support to sustain the gains.
State Chairman of NANNM, Mr. Aminu Shehu, also praised Governor AbdulRazaq for his visionary leadership and people-centred approach, describing the transformation in primary healthcare as unprecedented. He pledged the association’s loyalty and support to the government’s ongoing reforms.
