More than 100,000 vulnerable individuals across Africa have received a vital lifeline following a wide-reaching humanitarian intervention by the UBA Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc.

Between November 2025 and January 2026, the Foundation mobilized resources worth millions of naira and dollars to distribute essential food items, school materials, and cash gifts to communities grappling with economic hardship.

The massive outreach, driven by the Foundation’s “Food Bank and Giving Back” initiative, was designed to alleviate the financial strain typically associated with the festive season and the start of the new year. By targeting orphanages, schools, Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, and under-served communities across Nigeria and 19 other African nations, the Foundation underscored its commitment to fostering resilience and hope among the continent’s most vulnerable populations.

In Nigeria, the impact of the initiative was felt across all geopolitical zones as the Foundation’s team navigated through diverse terrains to reach those in dire need.

The relief materials reached the doorsteps of various care centers, including the Destitute Home in Okobaba, Lagos, and the Daughter of Mercy Mother of Mary Orphanage in Abia State.

The wave of support also extended to the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and the Helpless in Ebonyi, the Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation in Oyo, and the Itsoghena Orphanage Home in Edo.

Furthermore, the humanitarian train made stops at the Enoima Children Home in Akwa Ibom, Yekope Orphanage in Kogi, and the UMCN Orphanage Home in Taraba. In the north, succour was brought to IDP camps in Niger and Borno states, as well as the Kebbi Children’s Home and the Orphanage Home in Dutse, Jigawa.

Beyond Nigeria, the intervention spanned the continent, delivering nutritional support and aid to thousands in Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Congo DRC, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Leading the initiative, the Managing Director and CEO of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, personally visited the Destitute Home in Okobaba, Lagos, to distribute non-perishable food items and educational materials.

Speaking on the significance of the project, Atta noted that the Foundation’s approach goes beyond temporary relief; it is about consistent engagement and restoring dignity.

She emphasized that equipping people with proper nourishment is essential for both physical well-being and cognitive development, creating pathways for families to thrive rather than just survive.

Atta reiterated that true development begins with compassion and action.

She described the outreach as a fulfillment of the Foundation’s pledge to Africa to show up consistently and leave no community behind.

This latest drive complements the Foundation’s long-standing tradition of philanthropy, which includes initiatives such as the National Essay Competition, the Read Africa Project, and various health and environmental sustainability campaigns aimed at empowering the underprivileged.
