The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a landslide victory in the ward of the wife of its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
The APC polled 563 votes against 126 votes recorded by the Accord Party at Polling Unit 003, Ward 9, AUD Primary School, Atile, in Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The result gave the APC a winning margin of 437 votes, with a total of 709 votes recorded at the polling unit.
There was widespread jubilation among APC supporters and residents following the announcement and counting of the votes.
Dr Sekinah Oyebamiji, wife of the APC candidate, had earlier cast her vote at the polling unit and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election.
Speaking after voting, she described the voter turnout as impressive and commended the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their conduct.
“The voters’ turnout is quite impressive. The INEC officials are conducting themselves professionally. There are police officers around.”
“I think the process is good so far. The expectation is that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji will carry the day,” she said.
Dr Sekinah has been actively involved in the APC campaign ahead of the election, particularly in mobilising women and sensitising voters across the state.
The landslide victory in her ward is expected to boost the morale of APC supporters as collation of results from other polling units and wards continues.
