The Osun State Government has announced the upcoming launch of the Osun State Security Trust Fund, a strategic initiative designed to bolster the state’s security framework through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Kunle Adepoju, emphasized that security is the essential bedrock for any meaningful economic or social development.
He described the fund as a platform for government, the private sector, and development partners to pool resources, providing security agencies with modern equipment, technology, and improved logistics.
The Secretary of the Implementation Committee, Femi Oyedipe, noted that funding security is one of the most expensive ventures for any government, necessitating this collaborative approach.
Inspired by the successful model pioneered in Lagos State, the Osun fund will be managed by a board of critical stakeholders to ensure that requests for infrastructure and operational support from security chiefs are addressed efficiently.
The establishment of a Security Trust Fund in Osun State marks a transition toward a “tax-efficient” security model. By creating a formal, board-led structure, the Adeleke administration is providing the private sector with a transparent channel to contribute to regional stability, contributions that are often tax-deductible and more easily audited than ad-hoc donations.
This move is particularly timely as the South-West region faces evolving security challenges, ranging from communal disputes to the protection of critical agricultural and mining assets.
By moving beyond traditional budgetary allocations, Osun is seeking to modernize its “Amotekun” corps and conventional police units with better intelligence-gathering tools and rapid-response vehicles.
This institutionalized funding approach is intended to reassure investors and entrepreneurs that the state is building a resilient, long-term safety net that can survive changes in political cycles.
