Mr Abiola Awoyeye, a member of Osun House of Assembly, on Saturday distributed school uniforms, bags and writing materials to 500 pupils in public primary schools in Ile-Ife.
Awoyeye presented the educational materials to the pupils at the Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall, Enuwa.
He said that the initiative was aimed at supporting pupils and reducing some of the challenges affecting their participation in basic education.
According to him, the distribution of the educational materials was part of his efforts to contribute to the development of education in his constituency.
The House of Assembly member stated that providing essential learning materials would enable the beneficiaries to attend school properly and equipped for their studies.
He urged the pupils to take their education seriously and make effective use of the materials provided to them.
The lawmaker also encouraged parents and guardians to support their children and wards by ensuring regular school attendance and proper use of the materials.
Awoyeye said that the education remained important to the development of children and the society.
He called on other stakeholders, organisations and individuals to support efforts aimed at improving access to quality education for children.
One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of others, Blessing Adeleke, appreciated the lawmaker for the gesture, saying the materials would assist them in their studies.
