The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Chapter, has reaffirmed its decision to continue the ongoing strike action until all pending promotion issues are fully ratified and implemented by the state government.
Speaking during an emergency congress in Osogbo on Thursday, the state chairman, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, said the industrial action was sustained with the backing of the wider labour movement and the resolve of judiciary workers to secure their rights.
Adeniran clarified that the strike directive came from the JUSUN National Secretariat, stressing that it would not be suspended until the national leadership instructs otherwise.
“Our strike is beyond the planned meeting with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). There must be a formal agreement and the ratification of the 2023 promotion exercise before any negotiation can begin,” he declared.
He assured members that the long-awaited promotion letters would be issued before the strike is called off, maintaining that the union’s leadership would remain transparent and accountable.
The JUSUN chairman also disclosed that the national president of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Adamu, is expected to visit Osun State in solidarity with striking workers.
In his remarks, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, backed the industrial action, describing it as legitimate and urging workers not to succumb to intimidation.
Arapasopo appealed to the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, to implement the 2024 and 2025 approved promotions for judiciary workers, noting that their counterparts in other states had already been elevated.
He emphasized that resolving the promotion issue promptly would help restore industrial harmony in the state’s judiciary.
