The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it is studying the results of Saturday’s governorship election across the state to determine its next line of action.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party said it is examining the results from all 332 wards in the state and consulting its legal team on available constitutional and legal options.
The APC noted that the electoral process does not end with the declaration of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), emphasizing that the law provides avenues for aggrieved parties to seek redress through the Election Petition Tribunal, the Court of Appeal, and, where applicable, the Supreme Court.
According to the party, “An election cannot be said to have concluded without exploring all constitutionally permitted legal avenues to correct anomalies observed during the process, as enshrined in the Electoral Act, as amended.”
The APC commended its members and supporters for their steadfast commitment and contributions throughout the electoral process.
Reaffirming its commitment to the principles of the rule of law, fairness, and justice, the party stated that it will explore every available legal channel following consultations with its legal team.
It added that INEC’s declaration of results is merely one phase of the democratic process and will not deter the party from pursuing its legal rights.
The APC urged its members and supporters to remain calm and go about their legitimate business, cautioning them against reacting to provocative actions or statements from members of the ruling party.
The party also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters from alleged harassment and intimidation by members of the ruling party, reiterating that it will not abandon them under any circumstances.
The APC concluded that the current political situation in Osun is a passing phase that will eventually become part of history, expressing firm confidence that justice will ultimately prevail.
