The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Dr. Najeem Salaam, has pledged to transform the agricultural sector through timely support for farmers, improved infrastructure, and the establishment of farm estates across the state.
Salaam made the promise during an Arise TV town hall programme on the 2026 Osun governorship election, where he outlined his plans to make agriculture a major driver of economic growth and food security.
Describing himself as a farmer and a member of the Farmers’ Association in Osun State, Salaam stated that agricultural interventions must align with the actual needs and seasonal schedules of local farmers.
According to him, providing farmers with seeds, grants, or other inputs at the wrong time amounts to giving them money without addressing their real challenges.
He noted that a focused investment in agriculture would boost Osun’s economy, attract international investors, and create opportunities for agro-processing companies to establish operations in the state.
“As a farmer and a member of the Farmers’ Association in Osun State, the programme we are going to implement will be designed to relieve farmers and provide what is adequate for their needs.”
“If we focus on agriculture, it is one of the most effective ways to boost our economy and attract international investors to establish companies in our state. Agriculture will also provide food for our people,” Salaam said.
He further highlighted his vision for farm access and produce distribution across the state.
“I want to establish markets in each city where farmers can bring their produce to sell. This will help create a food surplus in Osun State. When there is a food surplus in Osun, neighbouring states and communities will come to buy food from us. Again, most of this agricultural equipment is just wasting away because the roads leading to the farms are not accessible. I also intend to establish farm estates,” he added.
