Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has declared Friday, August 14, as a work-free day to allow public service workers to participate in Saturday’s governorship election.
According to a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, the decision aims to enable workers to travel where necessary and prepare to exercise their voting rights on Saturday.
The circular noted that all categories of workers are covered by the work-free day declaration, except those on emergency and essential duties.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has tasked Osun workers, their relatives, and their friends with voting massively on Saturday and defending their votes to ensure the continuity of good governance across state sectors.
In a pre-election message to the workers, the governor commended the steadfastness of labor leadership and workers in supporting his administration, lauding the mutually beneficial relationship between his administration and Osun workers.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers in state establishments, I task you with mobilizing informal workers, artisans, and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defense of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.”
“We must defend the gains of the last three and a half plus years. Ours is a worker-friendly government that has delivered across the board to labor and the people of Osun. We cannot and must not allow a return to the dark days,” the governor noted in his message.
