Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised an alarm over alleged credible reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has concluded plans to freeze all Osun State government accounts.
Adeleke raised the concern in a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
He claimed that the anti-graft agency was also planning to freeze the bank accounts of top government functionaries in the state.
According to the statement, the governor noted that such a plan, if true, amounts to the height of lawlessness, adding that the plot to freeze state accounts is intended to paralyze government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor affirmed that there is no legal basis or justification for any push to freeze the state government accounts, declaring that the anti-graft agency lacks the legal authority to take such an action against a state government.
