The Osun State Government has alleged a plot involving the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to deploy a special squad to target top Accord Party leaders ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
A statement issued in Osogbo and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, claimed that the police hierarchy had constituted a special unit under CSP Moses Lahor to carry out what he described as a decapitation operation against Accord leaders in the state.
According to the statement, the Osun government said, “We have an authentic report about a plot for the squad to land in Osun at any moment to commence the selective, commando-like arrest of Accord officials, not for investigation and prosecution, but likely for summary execution.”
“The government and the party leadership have also reliably learned that the alleged killer squad has held a series of special meetings with the APC gubernatorial candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, during which he provided them with all the necessary logistics to carry out the planned gruesome agenda of liquidating known Accord stalwarts across different parts of the State.”
“It was specifically gathered that the APC candidate has provided the killer squad with two 18-seater Toyota passenger buses and one Toyota Sienna vehicle for their operations throughout the state.”
“What is particularly worrisome is that this planned undercover operation is a secret scheme being organized without the knowledge of the Osun State Commissioner of Police.”
“The head of the killer squad, who is a serving police officer, is a former Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Kidnapping in the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police. He was previously involved in the attempted murder of a chieftain of the NURTW, Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle, whom he shot in the abdomen. He was subsequently transferred out of Osun to Borno State as a punitive measure for the dastardly act of shooting a suspect in custody.”
“We hereby make an urgent appeal to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the international community to take note of the looming threat of mass arrests and killings of key Accord Party figures in Osun State.”
“We also need to inform the IGP that the peace-loving people of Osun State will resist, through lawful means, the planned mayhem being orchestrated by the opposition APC and their candidate, AMBO, who is desperately planning acts of mischief and malfeasance on a daily basis after being glaringly rejected by the people of Osun State ahead of the coming election.”
“We urge the IGP to toe the path of peace and harmony and not allow his officers to be used to carry out this known illegality in the interest of the already sinking APC and its candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, in Osun State.”
“We want the public to know that the good people of Osun are aware of and awake to the hatchet jobs being planned by the embattled, rejected, and desperate APC to win the coming August election in the state by any means necessary, even though it is too late for them to escape the glaring defeat awaiting them in the August 15, 2026 election,” Alimi said.
