The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun State chapter, has declared support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, citing his administration’s efforts to boost agricultural output and strengthen food security across the state.

The endorsement was announced on Thursday during the commissioning of the Farmers’ House and the free distribution of agricultural inputs to rice farmers. AFAN’s representative, David Ogunsade, said the decision was necessary to ensure the continuation of Adeleke’s agricultural reforms and the completion of key projects.

Speaking through Toki Adekunle, Ogunsade noted that the newly commissioned Farmers’ House had been left uncompleted by previous administrations. Addressing the audience in Yoruba, he said, “Because of the Governor’s contributions to the state’s development, especially in agriculture, which we do not want interrupted, we have resolved to endorse him for a second term in office. The work should continue until 2030.

“We want him to complete ongoing road construction projects and extend more roads to rural areas, as this will greatly help us in transporting farm produce to markets with ease.”

The rice farmers’ representative, Ayeni Mathew, also commended the Governor for distributing essential farming inputs, describing it as a critical intervention for rice farmers, who collectively manage over 1,000 hectares of rice plantations across Osun.

“With proper support, these plantations will significantly increase rice availability in the state,” Mathew said. “We are standing firmly behind Governor Adeleke for another term because of his unwavering backing of the agricultural sector since he assumed office. We cannot afford to lose this support and are ready to mobilise our votes in 2026.”

In his remarks, Governor Adeleke said the commissioning of the Farmers’ House was a demonstration of his administration’s dedication to empowering farmers and guaranteeing food security.

“The commissioning of this building for AFAN is more than just opening a structure; it is a declaration of our government’s commitment to farmers and food security,” Adeleke said. “I am pleased to announce that over 300 rice farmers will receive free paddy rice seeds today to enhance production in our state.”

Commissioner for Agriculture, Tola Faseru, explained that the initiative was carefully planned to ensure wide-reaching impact. “We have selected ten rice farmers from each local government, making a total of 300 beneficiaries across the state,” he said. “These farmers are being supported with paddy rice seeds, herbicides, and fertilisers. This intervention is designed to increase food production and guarantee food sufficiency in Osun.”
