The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently investigate and explain a four-hour disruption in the uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party demanded full transparency regarding the server interruption, alleging that the transmission delay occurred at a critical point on election night.
“The ADC hereby demands a comprehensive explanation from the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the observed interruption in the uploading of election results to the IReV portal for nearly four hours on election night. INEC must tell Nigerians precisely what happened,” the statement urged.
Despite raising concerns over result transmission, the ADC congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his election victory, framing the outcome as a triumph of popular democracy over state political machinery.
The party praised the voters of Osun State for demonstrating political resilience, noting that their active participation at the polls reflected a firm commitment to safeguarding democratic choices.
“This election has once again demonstrated a simple but powerful truth: when a people make up their minds about the future they want, there is a limit to what intimidation, money and the machinery of government can accomplish against their collective will,” Abdullahi stated.
The ADC noted that despite the high volume of federal officials, party figures, and security personnel mobilized into the state by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the voters remained steadfast in exercising their franchise.
“The people of Osun have shown Nigerians that no political machine is greater than a determined electorate. When citizens resolve to vote for the candidate and political direction they prefer, the ballot can still prevail,” the party spokesperson added.
The party concluded by calling on electoral authorities, political parties, and election monitoring groups to remain vigilant during election administration to protect democratic integrity in future national polls.
