A former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-Commissioner for Education, Chief (Mrs) Titi Laoye-Ponle, has declined Governor Ademola Adeleke’s nomination appointing her as a member of the Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
Governor Adeleke recently dissolved the university’s Governing Council and reconstituted it with Sooko (Prof.) Adewale Abiodun Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Other appointed members included Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Her Excellency Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponle, Mr. Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Mr. Orija Samuel Adebayo, and Mrs. Adewale Adetayo Bola.
Laoye-Ponle conveyed her decision to Governor Adeleke through the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Osogbo.
Senator Basiru explained that the former deputy governor would have attended the meeting in person to convey her stance but was unavoidably absent.
He stated that her decision was informed by her current commitment as the Chairman of the Governing Council of a federal institution.
“She asked me to tell you that this is not about her capacity or willingness to serve. She is presently the Chairman of the Governing Council of one of our federal institutions,” Basiru said.
Mrs. Laoye-Ponle was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Kano, in June 2024.
