The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has urged members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to sustain ethical standards and uphold balanced reportage, stressing the media’s crucial role in maintaining public trust and promoting security awareness.
CP Gotan made the call while receiving the leadership of the NUJ, Osun State Council, during a courtesy visit to the Police Command headquarters.
In a statement issued by the Council Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, the CP described the visit as a sign of the union’s high regard for the police, commending journalists in the state for their professionalism, dedication, and objectivity.
The police commissioner restated the command’s readiness to collaborate with the NUJ and sought continued media support in tackling insecurity.
According to him, Osun remains one of the most peaceful states in the country, assuring residents that the command is committed to protecting lives and property.
CP Gotan added that the police would not relent in preventing criminal elements from infiltrating the state.
Earlier, Osun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, applauded the cordial working relationship between journalists and the police in the state.
He said the union is committed to strengthening the partnership, especially before, during, and after the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Aboderin commended the commissioner for his efforts in sustaining peace and security across the state.
