The Osun State Government has officially commenced the payment of a N40,000 monthly allowance to more than 1,000 Primary Health Care (PHC) volunteers across the state, bringing an end to years of unremunerated service at the grassroots level.
Governor Ademola Adeleke announced the welfare package on Thursday during an orientation training session for the volunteers, drawn from all 30 local government areas of the state.
To clear immediate backlogs, the Governor also approved a one-month arrears payment, allowing each beneficiary to receive an initial lump sum of N80,000, with many confirming instant bank alerts during the event.
Beyond the immediate financial intervention, Governor Adeleke directed the immediate commencement of a phased absorption process to formally integrate the PHC volunteers into the Osun State Public Service.
He lauded the workers for their long-standing sacrifices, noting that their dedication has remained vital to sustaining effective health delivery across rural communities despite receiving no regular income for several years.
The administration reaffirmed that prioritizing the welfare of healthcare workers is central to its broader strategy to revitalize the state’s primary healthcare infrastructure.
By providing motivated personnel, regularizing volunteer staff, and maintaining consistent funding, the government aims to ensure that qualitative and accessible healthcare services remain permanently available to every resident of Osun State.
