The All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a notice of withdrawal of its petition against the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The notice of motion to withdraw the petition, dated September 8, 2026, was filed before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo. Bola Oyebamiji and the APC are listed as the petitioners, while Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, the Accord Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are named as respondents.
According to the filing, the petitioners are seeking an order from the tribunal granting them leave to withdraw the petition.
The application was brought pursuant to Sections 134, 137, 138, 139, 140, and 149 of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the First Schedule to the Act.
The document, titled “Notice of Motion to Withdraw Petition,” did not provide specific reasons for the decision to withdraw the challenge.
Meanwhile, the Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council has dismissed as false and mischievous previous reports alleging that the party and its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, had initiated a legal challenge against the election results.
In a statement released by the Head of Media and Publicity for the campaign council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the party categorically denied ever filing such a petition.
Omowaiye maintained that neither the APC nor Oyebamiji approached the tribunal to challenge the outcome of the August 15 poll.
He described the claims as completely untrue, urging the public to regard them as baseless rumours spread by individuals intent on stoking unnecessary tension and misleading the electorate.
He further appealed to party loyalists, members of the public, and the media to disregard the claims and avoid giving credence to unverified information.
Omowaiye reiterated that the APC and its candidate remain firmly committed to democratic norms and lawful processes, acting consistently in the interest of peace, stability, and the people of Osun State.
He concluded by urging citizens to depend solely on formal statements issued by the party and its campaign council regarding the post-election developments.
