The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed deep concern over the rising rate of extra-judicial killings in Osogbo, the state capital, and other parts of the state.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party stated that it is worrisome that Osun has become a killing field. This situation, the party noted, has made visitors from other states dread coming to the area, as human life appears to cheapened.

According to the statement, “The belief that the conclusion of the August 15, 2026 governorship election—in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner would bring an end to the killings has proved to be a mirage.”

“The situation whereby the state is constantly in the news for negative reports is enough to give genuine stakeholders sleepless nights, as what affects a part affects the whole.”

“Just yesterday, Friday, two persons were reportedly killed in a cruel manner at the Owo-eba area near Ilesa Garage, Osogbo, by a group of unidentified militant hoodlums. The attackers used guns, machetes, knives, and cudgels to snuff the life out of their victims. One of the deceased was identified within thuggery circles as Small Rugged, while the second victim was known as Seyi Osha.”

“Other victims include Mascot, a personal assistant to Small Rugged; Spirit; Agba Kali, a passer-by; and others who sustained serious injuries during the attack in front of Peka’s Bar.”

“As a party, we sympathize with the residents over the activities of fugitives from justice who have illegally turned Osun State into a jungle where might makes right.”

“The current state of insecurity makes a mockery of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandates the state government to protect the lives and property of the people.”

“The Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration must step up to ensure residents are not exposed to extra-judicial killings, as the negative stigma this unsavoury development brings is worrisome to all right-thinking members of society.”

“The police and other sister security agencies must also redouble their efforts to secure lives and property in the state, as there can be no acceptable excuses for non-performance.”

“The prevailing view in society is that every instance of extra-judicial killing signifies a failure of both the state government and statutory security agencies in their constitutional responsibilities.”

“We will not accept any excuses for exposing the people to extra-judicial killings, as the nation’s constitution strictly frowns upon the killing of citizens who have not been found culpable through the full cycle of the judicial process,” the statement concluded.
