Osun: 29-year-old player slumps, dies at football pitch on his birthday

The Osun State police command has confirmed the dead of a 29-year-old football player, Adeyemi Adewale who slumped at the football pitch.

It was gathered that the Adewale earlier celebrated his 29th birthday on Thursday before he slumped at final match of the Adeleke memorial cup at Ataoja School of Science.

Adewale, a player from Heritage Football Club, Ilesa West local government slumped during the match between his team and Ejigbo local government football team.

Confirming the incident, the Osun police command’s Spokesperson, CSP Yemisi Opalola said Adewale was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.

Opalola said, “Today,16/01/2025, while the Adeleke Memorial Cup Finals match was going on at Ataoja School Of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale ‘M’ 29YRS, a player from Ilesa West Football Team, slumped on the pitch.

“He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.

“Meanwhile, his corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue.

However, it was learnt that the Adeleke Memorial Cup tournament was sponsored by Hon Bamidele Salam, representing Ede North/South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
