The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of orchestrating a campaign of fabricated lies against the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, in what it described as a desperate bid to score cheap political points ahead of the 2026 elections.
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Hon Tajudeen Lawal, on Tuesday, the party described the PDP’s allegations against Oyetola as “barefaced lies” manufactured to tarnish the reputation of the immediate-past governor.
“It is disheartening that a ruling party in a state like Osun would descend so low to fabricate lies against Alhaji Oyetola to whip up public sentiment. The PDP has clearly graduated into an imaginary level of storytelling,” Lawal said.
The APC was reacting to a statement by Hon Sunday Bisi, Osun PDP Chairman, alleging that Oyetola was plotting to rig the forthcoming elections using the police and INEC, and was seeking a loophole through the Attorney-General of the Federation to access withheld local government allocations.
But Lawal dismissed the claims as baseless.
“At no time did the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy threaten to rig any election. He never discussed INEC or the police in that context, and there was no such conversation with any Attorney-General regarding local government funds,” the statement read.
Lawal insisted that the February 10, 2025, ruling by the Court of Appeal had already resolved the matter of the reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors, rendering the PDP’s allegations irrelevant.
“The PDP chairman’s statement is nothing but a watery concoction laced with deliberate falsehood,” he added.
The APC also warned the PDP against attempts to unleash violence during the 2026 elections, alleging that over 30 APC members were killed during the 2022 and 2023 elections.
“If Governor Adeleke and his allies believe they can massacre our supporters as they did in the past, they will be met with lawful resistance. We will no longer tolerate attacks disguised as elections,” Lawal warned.
The party further described Sunday Bisi as “a pathological liar” with a history of making wild accusations without evidence, citing previous claims he made about assassination plots and arms stockpiling which were later found to be false.
“Sunday Bisi once accused the IGP of plotting to kill him — he never proved it. He also accused us of stockpiling arms, which turned out to be a lie. This is not someone the public should take seriously.”
The APC also warned the PDP against attempting to manipulate the voting process as was allegedly done during the 2022 governorship election in Ede.
“If they think there’ll be an unfettered allowance for voting till 11:00pm as was the case in Ede North and South, they are mistaken. That illegality will be resisted lawfully and firmly.”
The party called on the public to ignore what it called “superfluous and misplaced lies” by the PDP and urged security agencies to remain neutral and vigilant in the run-up to the 2026 polls.
