Osun 2026: Leaving APC was an act of conscience not disloyalty – ADC candidate

16 Dec 2025

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Osun State and former speaker of the Osun state Assembly, Najeem Folasayo Salam has said his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) was “an act of conscience,” insisting it was motivated by principle rather than disloyalty.

Salam made the remarks during his acceptance speech after emerging as the ADC governorship candidate at Monday’s primary election in Osogbo. He was declared candidate by consensus, polling 520 votes.

“Leaving the APC was not an act of disloyalty; it was an act of conscience,” Salam said, describing his emergence with the ADC as more than a political development but a moral calling.

He criticised the APC for years of poor political judgment, internal contradictions, and misplaced priorities in the state, noting that reform efforts had often been resisted. Salam also condemned the withholding of local government allocations, which he said had weakened governance, left schools struggling, and unpaid workers neglected.

Salam promised that the ADC offered an alternative platform built on “responsible leadership, transparency, development, and unity,” rejecting what he called the “politics of punishment.”

He further outlined his commitments to prioritise workers’ welfare, revitalise education, empower youths, strengthen security, and promote local enterprise. Salam called for unity among Osun residents as the state prepares for the 2026 governorship election.
