Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dispelled rumours of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), confirming his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The declaration followed Adeleke’s unanimous endorsement by the PDP leadership caucus in Osun for a second term in the 2026 governorship election.
In a post on his official X account, Adeleke wrote: “Yesterday, I met with the @OfficialPDPNig Leadership Caucus in Osogbo after weeks of consultations with stakeholders across Osun — from traditional rulers and civil servants to market leaders and grassroots party members.
“I’m pleased to share the resolutions: I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.
“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President @officialABAT for re-election in 2027, recognising him as a proud son of our state.”
Adeleke added that he would continue to pursue his administration’s Five-Point Agenda “with renewed focus and dedication”, acknowledging the “love and support” of Osun residents.
The endorsement was formalised at a meeting in Osogbo attended by party stakeholders, traditional rulers, civil servants, market leaders and grassroots representatives.
A communiqué issued after the session stated: “The PDP-led government under Governor Adeleke remains popular and acceptable above all other political parties in Osun State.
“The PDP in Osun State recognises that Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes the President the son of Osun State. Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
“The PDP in Osun State reaffirms its adoption and endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in the 2026 governorship election on the platform of the PDP. Governor Adeleke and all members of the PDP in Osun State should remain in the PDP.”
The communiqué also directed PDP structures across the state to disseminate the resolution and urged Adeleke to continue governance and deliver on his Five-Point Agenda.
The dual endorsement of Adeleke and Tinubu sparked immediate online debate, drawing both commendation for what some describe as a strategic alignment and criticism from opponents who label it “anti-party behaviour.”
