Heavy fighting has reportedly broken out between suspected Lakurawa fighters and armed bandits in the Tapkin Giyayya axis of the Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Security expert Zagazola Makama, who disclosed this in a report on his official X handle, stated that both sides recorded significant casualties.
The clash allegedly began after a group of armed bandits migrated from forests in Zamfara State, moving through the Tudun Magaji area and into the Mashegu Forest, encroaching on territory held by the rival group.
Local residents reported that several fighters were killed during the violent confrontation, while others were seen fleeing the area with severe gunshot wounds.
The exact number of casualties could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
Security authorities are also yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
