The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has commended the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, for demonstrating humility, discipline, and respect for traditional institutions.

The Ooni made the commendation while receiving Oyebamiji during a courtesy visit to his palace in Ile-Ife. The monarch emphasized that leadership is a call to service and sacrifice, urging political actors to embrace unity and avoid actions that could deepen societal divisions.

“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key, and grievances must be resolved through dialogue. After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” the Ooni advised. He also called for reconciliation among aggrieved party members, noting that peace and cohesion are critical for the state’s progress.

During the visit, the Ooni offered special prayers for Oyebamiji, seeking divine guidance, wisdom, and success for him ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

In his response, Oyebamiji pledged to uphold the trust of the people and deliver good governance if elected. He explained that his decision to visit the palace followed the advice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings in Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba civilization, before embarking on his campaign.

“I informed Mr. President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me to do so, stressing the importance of blessings from this ancient throne,” Oyebamiji said. He noted that the President highlighted how past leaders, including the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, drew strength from ancestral blessings received at the source.

Oyebamiji assured the monarch and residents of Ile-Ife that his administration would prioritize development and remain accountable. “I will not betray the trust of the people and will work tirelessly for the progress of Ife and Osun State at large,” he added.
